From Soap to a Thriving Business: Nyasha's Story of Consistency and Growth

Meet Nyasha. We have shared Nyasha's story before, and we are sharing it again today because her journey is one of consistency and growth. When Nyasha joined the Family Empowerment Program in Zimbabwe in May 2021, she came in carrying a weight of hardship that many women in our program know well.

A Business Transformed

Today, Nyasha's business looks different from where it started, and that is a good thing. What began with soap and petroleum jelly has grown into a diverse beauty and lifestyle product business. She has significantly expanded her product range and now sells perfumes, foam baths, roll-ons, handbags, and chocolates, with each new line representing a deliberate decision tailored to her market and what it can support.

Her income has continued to increase in small, steady increments, and she now has what she describes as a consistent cash flow. This reality would have felt impossible just a few years ago.

The Real Challenges Behind the Growth

Nyasha's growth has not been without resistance, and we want to be honest about that. Her business moves in cycles: mid-month and back-to-school periods tend to be slower as household budgets tighten, while month-end brings a welcome recovery in sales. She has learned to navigate these rhythms, but they remain a real pressure point.

The wider economic environment adds another layer of difficulty. Rising inflation has pushed up the cost of raw materials for her perfumes and foam baths, forcing her to increase her prices, something her customers do not always find easy to absorb. At times, import constraints mean that packaging containers for her products simply are not available, stalling production when she needs to keep up with demand.

For her business, these are not small challenges. They are the kind of obstacles that test whether a business owner will continue or give up. But Nyasha does not give up.

Her words of advice to those doing business: "Business is hard, but one needs to be persistent. You can't stay in one place; you will definitely grow. Save, keep going, and put God first."

Looking Ahead

We are so proud of how far Nyasha has come. When things were hard in those early months, she did not quit. When one product line slowed, she found another. When the economy pushed back, she adjusted and kept moving.

That kind of resilience is not something we can teach in a training session; it comes from hope. Hope is only found in the One. This program can create the right environment for that resilience to flourish, and Nyasha has done exactly that.
